BMeg Vs GInebra Result July 15 2012

B-Meg threw a defensive blanket on Barangay Ginebra in the first half before going on an attack mode en route to gaining an outright playoff shot at a finals entry in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.
The Llamados fashioned out a crucial 82-70 victory that assured the team of a tie for second spot at the close of the carryover semifinal phase Wednesday in the same venue.

While B-Meg goes for an outright finals passage versus Rain or Shine, Ginebra tries to avail itself of the playoff incentive of the “4-of-5” rule in playing Talk n Text in the last play date of the semis.

Ginebra slid down to third place behind Rain or Shine (9-3) and B-Meg (9-4) with an 8-5 card.

“The biggest key was we came out with a defensive mindset,” said coach Tim Cone as his troops bounced back strong from their sorry loss to the Meralco Bolts the last time out.

“We came in with a renewed commitment to play defense and we made a statement right in the first quarter,” added Cone.

Giving away at least 30 points in each of the first quarter of their last two games, the Llamados
indeed exerted a tough defensive effort, holding the Kings down to 16 in the opening period and nine in the next.

“We limited their output (in the first half) and that gave us a good feeling. It carried through to the end,” said Cone.

The multi-titled American coach made special mention of the job put up by PJ Simon on Mark Caguioa.

Averaging 21.3 points in the conference, Caguioa bled for only three markers in this game.

After taking the half at 32-25, the Llamados went on the attack, leading by as many as 17 at 74-57 before sealing the decisive win. Marc Pingris worked hard on both ends, coming through with a personal three-season best of 24 points
that went with 13 rebounds and four assists against two turnovers.

Marcus Blakely and Rafi Reavis had their own double-double numbers as the Llamados hardly felt James

Yap’s flat performance.

Yap went scoreless in the first half and made his first field-goal basket with already eight minutes into the third quarter.

Still, the two-time MVP awardee finished with a double-figure output, converting a triple, a pair of twinners and four charities for 11 markers.

Cedric Bozeman led the losing team with 22 points and 13 rebounds with Jayjay Helterbrand adding 16 points and Kerby Raymundo contributing 14. (SB) The scores:
B-MEG 82 - Pingris 24, Blakely 17, Yap 11, Reavis 11, Urbiztondo 9, Simon 4, De Ocampo 4, Villanueva 2, Barroca 0.

GINEBRA 70 - Bozeman 22, Helterbrand 16, Raymundo 14, Mamaril 4, Cortez 4, Caguioa 3, Maierhofer 2, W. Wilson 2, Hatfield 2, Villanueva 1, Maliksi 0, Abab

Meralco VS Petron Game Result July 15 2012

MERALCO ENDS SECOND SEASON IN STYLE

MERALCO coach Ryan Gregorio wanted to end the season with a flourish and Mario West was all too willing to oblige. West capped his game-long heroics by driving in for the winning basket in a 113-112 squeaker over Petron Blaze Sunday in the PBA Governors Cup at the packed Smart Araneta Coliseum.

West's up-and-under layup negated the Alex Cabagnot-led Boosters' fiery uprising from the halfway mark of the fourth period and enabled the Bolts to pull off the victory, their second straight against the league heavyweights. "We definitely enjoyed this. Our goal was to end the season on a high note and we actually did," said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio.

"There were anxious moments when we couldn’t stop Cabagnot, but we had 'Super Mario' in our roster." West lived up to his coach's tag by finishing with a conference-high 41 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Mark Cardona added 26 and Sol Mercado 19 in Gregorio's rotation for the game, limited to just eight players.

The Bolts formally wound up their season at sixth with a 5-9 win-loss record for the conference and 20-23 overall, a stark improvement from their total 13-20 slate in their maiden year. "We're a lot better in this conference from our previous ones. We definitely made huge progress this season," assessed Gregorio. "I told myself I'd use three days of complete rest and then start formulating ways for us to get better. I did some experiments in our last two games in our offensive executions. We can fine-tune that, relying mostly on the individual talent of my players.

For sure, there's a lot of promise for our franchise." Cabagnot scattered 11 of his career-high 29 points and Chris Lutz 10 of his 22 in the fourth period to spark and fuel Petron's charge from as much as a 16-point deficit and a 91-105 hole. Cabagnot's triple even made it a 112-111 count, before the Bolts executed their last play off a timeout for West to have the ball in the final 5.7 seconds.

"You want to give it to your best player. It's the basic principle, especially if it's the last shot. He can either go strong or create for his teammate. He took it upon himself to finish strong and he was rewarded," Gregorio explained. Also for naught went Cabagnot's game-high 10 assists and Arwind Santos' 16 points and as many rebounds as Petron wound up with a 6-8 record and fifth in the same tourney it ruled last year. Still, Petron did not go out with a mere whimper.

It was a far different ending to the one most envisaged when Meralco took advantage of Petron's erratic start to take control of the game and stretch its lead to a high of 81-65, off West's three-point play, 4:58 to go in the third period. Once the Boosters started to take better control of the ball and Cabagnot, limited to just seven points in the first half, took over they began their fightback.

Lutz's three-point play off West knotted the count at 107, capping a 16-2 run in which he had eight points and Cabagnot six. Cardona's charities and Mercado's shotclock-beating jumper made it a four-point game, before Cabagnot boomed in his triple. (NC)

The scores: MERALCO 113 - West 41, Cardona 26, Mercado 19, Ross 10, Taulava 10, Macapagal 5, Reyes 2, Timberlake 0.

 PETRON 112 - Cabagnot 29, Lutz 22, Santos 16, Faison 15, Washington 11, Pena 6, Yeo 5, Hontiveros 4, Baclao 2, Duncil 2, Lanete 0. Quarterscores: 29-24, 56-46, 88-79, 113-112

Ginebra Vs Rain or Shine Game Result

Barangay Ginebra sustained its hot streak and muddled up the fight for the PBA Governors Cup finals with a key 95-86 win over tournament leader Rain or Shine at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Thursday night. Season MVP contender Mark Caguioa came through with yet another heckuva job, leading the Kings to a third win in as many games in the semifinal round and four straight overall dating back to the eliminations.

Ginebra made it a tight, three-cornered fight for the finals as it closed in on Rain or Shine (9-3) and B-Meg (8-3) with an 8-4 carryover win-loss record. One more win, and the Kings avail themselves of the outright playoff incentive of the “4-of-5” rule in the semis. They can even gain outright finals entry with a sweep of their two remaining games versus B-Meg and Talk n Text.

“I’m so thankful for this win. Honestly, I don’t know how many wins more do we need. Hindi na namin isipin yon. We’ll just stay focused on what’s ahead of us. We’ll prepare hard against B-Meg Sunday,” said Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen. Falling by the wayside as a result of Ginebra’s win was reining champion Petron Blaze (6-6). Kerby Raymundo, Jayjay Helterbrand and Rudy Hatfield provided big help as the Kings stalled the Elasto Painters’ title drive. Raymundo logged 15 points, Helterbrand contributed 11 points while Hatfield got away with 12 rebounds and eight markers in the tense game marred by technical fouls incurred by Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, Ginebra assistant coach Alfrancis Chua and RoS stalwart Gabe Norwood. Hatfield became the 36th player to have collected at least 2,000 career defensive rebounds.

Ginebra kept its unbeaten run in the semifinal round, avenging its elims lost to Rain or Shine. The Kings pulled off the feat by shrugging off a flat start and outmaneuvering the Elasto Painters in the second half. With Tanquingcen making the right adjustments after their sluggish start, the Kings wiped out a 10-point first-quarter deficit, pulling even at the half, 45-all, and seizing control in the third quarter.

Ginebra import Cedric Bozeman scored only 19 points but made his presence felt on the defensive end. “Give and take yun. Di sya gaanong umiskor pero evident ang effort nyo sa depensa,” said Tanquingcen of his import

 (SB) The scores: GINEBRA 95 - Caguioa 29, Bozeman 19, Raymundo 15, Helterbrand 11, Hatfield 8, W. Wilson 5, Villanueva 4, Maliksi 2, Cortez 2, Wilson 0, Ababou 0, Maierhofer 0.

 RAIN OR SHINE 86 - Lee 19, Chan 14, Cornley 13, Norwood 11, Ibanes 9, Cruz 6, Quinahan 5, Arana 4, Belga 3, Buenafe 2. Quarters: 18-28, 45-45, 70-65, 95-86

Bmeg Pummels Petron In Semis

PBA/Nuki Sabio

Instead of talking to the media, B-MEG coach Tim Cone ushered his coaching staff to do the post-game interview after the Llamados picked up their second straight win in the semifinals of the Governors’ Cup.

Despite Cone’s ejection in the second quarter, B-MEG rallied to defeat Petron, 104-93, Wednesday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

“These guys won the game for us. Now I can retire and allow this group to take over my place,” said Cone in a jest before leaving the room.

The Llamados were down by 19 points with 1:43 left in the second quarter when the American coach was called for his second technical foul, leading to his ejection. Jeffrey Cariaso, a neophyte assistant coach and a longtime Cone disciple as a player, called the shots for the Llamados.
But the 1995 Rookie of the Year said the whole staff, which also includes Richard del Rosario, Johnny Abarrientos, and Koy Banal, deserved credit.

“Everyone knows you’re dreaming of this opportunity (to coach a game) and all of us were communicating at the sidelines and that’s the reason why we’re all here,” said Cariaso.
Cone’s ejection sparked the Llamados, who scored six straight points to end the second quarter.
“We had a mini-run in the final minute of the second period. We didn’t change our game plan. Pero nadala namin sa second half yung momentum of that run,” said Banal.

Abarrientos said the team merely tried to keep the game close in the second half.
“I told them six stops lang yan, try natin kung kaya natin lumamang,” he said. “Marqus was a key for us. Hindi kasi siya napapagod.”

Blakely finished with 35 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, when the Llamados outscored the Boosters, 37-19. He made one spectacular play after another, including a thunderous slam similar a monster tomahawk jam a la Julius Ervin, that gave B-MEG a 96-89 with 3:06 left in the game.
The B-MEG reinforcement, a strong candidate for the Best Import award, also had 11 rebounds, five steals and three blocks.

The Llamados improved their win-loss record to 8-3, keeping within striking distance of first place Rain or Shine. Defending champion Petron collapsed for the second straight game to drop to fifth place with just two games remaining. With the 4-of-5 incentive out of its reach, the Boosters need to hope that none of B-MEG, Ginebra, and Talk ‘N Text win more than eight games.
The scores:

B-MEG (104) – Blakely 35, Yap 20, Pingris 18, Simon 10, Villanueva 8, Reavis 4, De Ocampo 4, Urbiztondo 3, Barroca 2.

Petron (93) – Cabagnot 22, Washington 15, Santos 14, Ildefonso 14, Faison 12, Lutz 6, Hontiveros 5, Yeo 2, Miranda 2, Pena 1.
Quarters: 19-32, 44-57, 67-74, 104-93
