But still, you'll have to wonder why despite the abundance of great rookies thisseason such as Paul Lee who's averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game and Chris Lutz who's averaging 18 points and 3 rebounds per game, Alex still got the best player of the week award.
A possible answer to that lies in the importance and in the impact of those three in their respective teams. Lee is important to Rain or Shine, but because of his foul troubles, his playing minutes decreased in his second game. His teammates had the chance to step up and contribute without him on the floor. Lutz on the other hand is a steady contributor for Petron, but in the most crucial and in the most demanding situations wherein their opponents were making a run it was Cabagnot who acted as a closer for them. Just like when B-Meg was making a run in the 4th quarter Alex was the one who made 7 straight points to seal the deal for Petron, 73-69 and also, in their game against Barako Bull, Alex was the one who launched 3 straight 3-pointers that stopped the Barakos from making a run en route to winning the ball game, 95-83. For me, he is the most invaluable player right now for Petron. Thus, he deserves the player of the week award.
