Jeff Chan is The PBA Best Player of the Week

MANILA, Philippines - Rain or Shine's Jeff Chan has been named PBA Player of the Week after helping the Elasto Painters top the league standings with his strong offensive production.

Chan averaged 17 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in Rain or Shine's victories over the Meralco Bolts and the Alaska Aces last week, and his team now has a 4-1 record, best in the PBA.

"He's been the most consistent for us," Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao said in a PBA.ph interview.
Chan was especially effective in the Elasto Painter's blowout win against Alaska, when he went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc and scored 20 points in the 120-84 win.

But Guiao said Chan has not only been a standout on offense, he has also been working hard on the other end of the floor.

"People tend to look at his offense but his defense has improved a lot from last year," Guiao said. "He's also gotten to be a better passer. He's been working hard in practice."

Chan has improved immensely from the previous season, wherein he only scored 7.6 points per game. In Season 37, he scores a team-high 16 points per game to go along with 3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals.
For the former Far Eastern U (FEU) Tamaraw, his hard work is paying off.

"Gusto ko lang maiangat ang laro ko at matulungan ang team," Chan said. "Kaya nga after practice, stay pa ako sa gym, mga 30 minutes. Basta matapos lang ang routines ko."

Even with his improvement and the Elasto Painters' rise, Chan said he will continue working hard to help his team achieve their goal of making the semi-finals.

"Lahat kami, of one mind para ma-realize namin iyon. Kaya wala pa ring pahinga, at marami pang hard work na kailangan," he said.
